AMANDA CIMAGLIA

Band of Scars

Band of Scars is coming soon through Dorrance Publishing!

Deleted Preface to Band of Scars

Part of the original first draft of the Band of Scars manuscript, this preface was told from the drummer in the band, Arizona Reynolds:

The story of my band, our band—The Band of Scars—is an unusual story. Not impossible, simply unusual. We didn’t plan to become a band. We didn’t even mean to meet each other. Everything was an accident—a beautiful, fateful accident. It’s safe to say that I wouldn’t be where I am today without Madison Williams, Ryan Engleheart, Lea Travis, or Riley Underwood.

But in order to really understand our band, and everything that happened to us, means understanding how each of us became the person we were when we met each other. All of our lives were a mess before we stumbled into each others’ lives. We came with our baggage. We came with our scars, making us beautiful and unique in such tragic ways. When we met, we hated our scars. But that’s the beautiful thing about other people who have scars: they share in your pain, understand it, and help you to embrace. Learning to embrace my scars is what allowed me to truly grow and become who I was meant to be.

Changes in Life

So, this is my first little taste of what my debut novel will be about...

Band of Scars - my current working title (which I plan to keep, unless advised otherwise) - focuses on all of the changes that we, as humans, go through in life. Change is inevitably hard. Knowing change is coming can be thrilling, terrifying, exciting, or some combination of those. In the end, however, change tends to be necessary.

Colton's quote, "The phases of the moon are here to constantly remind us that the full moon, just like anything else in life, is just a phase. We can get through it, but we can't get through it alone," is central to how some people view change. Life will always continue to shift and we have to learn to evolve with it.
